This section of Auto on Info rates and ranks auto brands and auto manufacturers with significant sales in the U.S.
The ratings and rankings are for year 1990 and use the statistics
found in the Used-Cars-to-Avoid table and the
reliability charts of the April 1990 issue of Consumer Reports,
likely the most respected and followed source of
automobile-quality information in North America.

Some interesting highlights of automobile brand and manufacturer quality
in 1990 are:
1. Honda Motor Company's Acura and Honda's Honda brands
placed first and second by both of the quality rankings employed in this
section. And both achieved perfect quality scores.
2. The Toyota brand took a bit of a tumble from 1985, but still
placed within the Top 4 by both quality rankings.
3. Brands of General Motors Corporation and the Chrysler
Group accounted for half or more of the Bottom 10 by both quality rankings.
4. Honda and Toyota Motor Corporation were among the Top
3 automobile manufacturers by both quality rankings.
5. The Big Three - General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford
Motor Company - accounted for half of the Bottom 6 by both quality rankings.
